🥘 Why This Recipe Works

The secret to this extraordinary noodle dish lies in the toasted spices. By dry-toasting cumin seeds, fennel seeds, and chili flakes before crushing them, you unlock an incredible depth of aroma that infuses every strand of noodle. The red onion, cabbage, and bell pepper provide fresh crunch and natural sweetness, while the chili oil and soy sauce create a rich, umami-packed coating. This is Cantonese-style chow mein technique meeting Hakka flavor sensibility — and it works beautifully.

10 ingredients, one pan, 15 minutes — a weeknight noodle fix that tastes like it took hours.

          🌱 Why This Dish

Hakka noodles are a beloved Indo-Chinese fusion dish, but this version by Yeung Man Cooking takes a different approach — using toasted whole spices rather than a pre-made sauce. The technique of dry-toasting cumin and fennel before crushing them is classic Indian cooking, while the soy-chili oil base is pure Cantonese. This cross-cultural noodle dish represents the beautiful diversity of Chinese cooking, where regional techniques blend and evolve. It’s also naturally vegan and endlessly customizable.
